We always love it when couples approach us with fun and creative ideas for their wedding video.

Rather than a simple video of the day, many couples prefer to add a bit of fun to their video with pre-recorded skits and scripted scenes.

A recent client hired us for an extra day to add a fantastic Pulp Fiction storyline to their wedding video. It looked great and we had so much fun doing it.

If you’re looking for a wedding video in Melbourne, be sure to ask your filmmakers if they would be willing to spend a bit of extra time to shoot a few extra scenes for your video.

Brainstorm some creative ideas you’d love to do, and talk to your video guy about the possibilities. You could base the video on your favourite movie. Or a song. Or write your own unique scene.

It’s a lot of fun. It’s easier than you think. And it makes your big day so much more memorable for everyone involved.

We came across a really really creative wedding ring concept the other day:

Custom rings engraved with the waveform of the couples saying “I do”.

The concept comes from Japanese jewellery designer Sakurako Shimizu.

We think it’s pretty neat.

We have seen some amazing celebrations in our time filming wedding video in Melbourne.

From laidback beachside ceremonies to gorgeous vineyard settings, huge regal ballrooms and the amazing views of seafront venues, we have been blown away by some spectacular spots in Melbourne.

We never thought we would be blown away by a humble backyard wedding, but last month we were treated to one of the most beautiful ceremonies in recent memory courtesy of Mikki and Gidon’s wedding in the comfort of their own home.

Proving that backyard weddings don’t need to be small-scale affairs, the couple made use of a nice big backyard and organised a big, brilliant day. The ceremony, photoshoot and reception all took place within the home.

It’s 2012 – a leap year. And according to tradition it is the year for women go against convention and propose to men.

The tradition dates back 5th century Ireland, where – according to legend – Saint Patrick made a deal with Brigid of Kildare that women could propose to men provided it was a leap year.

Saint Pat’s reasoning for this decision is unclear, but the point is 2012 is a great opportunity for ladies to take the lead, buck tradition and ask for a man’s hand in marriage.

Kind of like that Sandra Bullock/Ryan Reynolds movie, but better.

And ladies, it gets better. If the man refuses your proposal, Danish tradition suggests that refusal must be compensated with 12 pairs of gloves, while Finnish tradition requires that he buy her the fabrics for a skirt.

We have no idea either, but tradition is tradition.

And guys, just be thankful you don’t live in the 13th century under the rule of Margaret of Scotland, who – according to legend – required that fines be levied if a man refused his lady’s marriage proposal.

Happy Valentine’s everyone! It’s our favourite time of year, when loved-up couples celebrate their relationship with grand romantic gestures. We are especially excited about the marriage proposals. More marriage proposals mean more wedding videos in Melbourne for us to capture. But for many people today could be one of the happiest days of their lives.

The Movie Theatre

This guy right here. He’s a keeper. In one of the grandest romantic gestures we’ve ever seen, this guy produced a MOVIE TRAILER about his proposal. Then organised for the trailer to play for his lady at a movie theatre. The trailer ends with the guy entering the theatre, making the transition from the screen to real life. Not sure what happened next. Our eyes got a little misty. Is someone cutting onions in here?

The Jumper

This guy gets points for effort, even if his proposal was momentarily horrifying.

Under the Bridge

Nothing huge here. It’s just kind of simple and sweet. This guy got super organised organising a film crew, band, boat and more to make sure everything went perfectly to plan.

The Disney Guy

Our next proposer went full Disney movie on us, breaking out into a hilariously awkward musical number.

The Video Game Geek

It’s not exactly spectacular, but proposals don’t get much more creative than this. He re-programmed a Super Mario Bros video game to spell out his marriage proposal in gold coins. That’s pretty special.

The Wall

This guy was so sure about proposing he splashed it across the side of a building.

The Talk Show

American actress Angie Harmon had the privilege of having her proposal broadcast live on TV. Lucky she said yes.

Our busy wedding filmmakers were in fine form today, producing two new wedding trailers to publish on our website.

The trailers are a great way to give our clients a sneak peak at their wedding video while our editors take the time to make their full wedding film perfect.

The trailer is also an ideal format for sharing online. You would be surprised by exactly how many of your curious friends will watch your wedding video if you post it on Facebook. Some of our most popular videos have received over 600 visits JUST from Facebook.

We were recently contacted by a couple who needed the raw footage of their wedding re-edited. They had hired a budget camera crew and were extremely unhappy with the quality of their video.

We had a quick look at the video and were shocked to see grainy footage, poor sound and jumpy edits. The film had clearly been recorded with old, outdated equipment.

It seems that there are a small number of wedding videographers out there who think it’s still OK to offer wedding video packages shot with 90s technology and edited manually using clunky machinery.

We thought our clients might appreciate a quick guide to finding a quality, reliable video company to shoot their wedding.

Is this your wedding video guy?

If you’re looking for top-notch wedding videos in Melbourne, the key is in the technology they use.

Ask questions about their equipment.

Do they shoot in high definition digital? What type of cameras do they use? When were they purchased? What software do they use for editing? Is the final product a High-Definition Blu-Ray disc or just a standard DVD?

To ensure the very best quality, your video needs to be shot in digital (not to an analogue tape) with camera equipment no more than three years old. Major leaps in camera technology over the past few years means anything produced more than three years ago is practically obsolete.

Video editing needs to be done using computer software. There are several excellent programs out there. What’s important is that they are using a computer to edit your video, not a clunky old tape machine from 1995.

And finally, if your videographer really knows his/her stuff, he/she will put your wedding video on a Blu-Ray disc. There is a HUGE difference between Blu-Ray and standard DVD quality, and your wedding deserves nothing but the best.
